The rules of casino blackjack are pretty straightforward, but there are some nuances that people who aren’t avid blackjack players might now know about. This is what I’d like to discuss in this article.
The basic premise of the game is to reach a combination of 21.
Suit doesn’t matter, the 10 card and all face cards (Jack, King Queen) all count as 10. Cards 2 through 9 count as their given value and Aces count as either 1 or 11.
Etiquette is important with casino blackjack, as with all card games. Don’t touch the cards on the table! (This isn’t poker!) When the dealer deals cards on the table, only the initial 2 cards constitute your hand. It’s considered a big faux-pas if you pick up on the cards the dealer deals. (For most people familiar with casino blackjack, this is a given.)
When you sit down at a table to buy-in, make sure there is a break in the game before putting your money down. You can also wait till the dealer is shuffling to do this. For casino blackjack, you should aim to buy in at about double your average bet. (You can buy in for a bit lower if you’re just getting started.) When you place your bet, put the chips with a higher value at the bottom and the chips with a lower value at the top of your stack of chips.
Make sure that you are betting within your personal financial limits and most importantly, have fun!
